Why a Memorial Service?

The main reason to have a memorial service after your loved one has been cremated is to give closure to their family, and friends. Giving the extended family an opportunity to gather and remember both their connection with the deceased, and each other.

How Does a Memorial Service Differ from a Traditional Funeral?

As mentioned in the page Traditional Funeral Services, there are four basic components which make up the conventional approach to funerals.

  1. A Visitation
  2. The Funeral Service
  3. A Committal Service
  4. The Funeral Reception

The memorial service will be similar to the traditional service in that there will be a visitation, a funeral service, and possibly a reception afterward. The main difference is the absence of a casket, and in its place the urn will be placed.

So Why Choose a Memorial Service?

The benefit of a memorial service as opposed to a traditional funeral is the memorial service can be held weeks, or even months after the passing of your family member giving family, and friends time to travel to the funeral home. This extended time can be used to better prepare and plan the service making it as personal and unique as your loved one was in their life.
